Is Counseling Right for me?
Considering whether to pursue therapeutic treatment is a natural contemplation. The motivation for seeking therapy is multifaceted, encompassing a range of reasons including navigating grief, resolving interpersonal challenges, and addressing mental health issues. It's crucial to emphasize that none of these reasons should be disregarded. Contrary to common misconceptions, seeking the guidance of a therapist does not reflect weakness; instead, it signifies strength, courage and responsibility in seeking emotional support and direction.
Life inevitably presents everyone with challenges, some of which are difficult to overcome. When attempting to restore a healthy mental balance independently after facing setbacks, seeking the expertise of a therapist can offer the encouragement and support for progress.
Whether one chooses to engage in face-to-face or online therapeutic sessions, the presence of an unbiased and skilled specialist can yield significant benefits for overall well-being. Beyond the invaluable support of caring loved ones vested in one's mental welfare, dialogue-based therapy can facilitate a systematic exploration of emotions during sessions. Moreover, it provides pragmatic guidance for acquiring adaptive strategies to effectively navigate life's challenges.
However, the suitability of therapy in specific contexts, such as couples counseling or addressing sleep-related concerns, may not be immediately evident until one embarks on the therapeutic journey. At the core of the therapeutic process is a focus on individual needs, wherein the ultimate authority for decision-making regarding one's care resides with the individual.

Clinical
Supervision
Licensed Independent/Clinical Social Work (LISW/LCSW) Supervision
-
Clinical supervision in the realm of social work involves a collaborative process between the supervisor and supervisee and discuss clinical cases, determine and document appropriate pathways, and address professional or personal challenges or biases that might impact these cases. Within this framework, clinical supervisors impart insights about therapeutic techniques and offer guidance, thus equipping supervisees with the knowledge, skills and ability needed to effectively support their clients.

Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC) Supervision
-
Much like supervision in social work, clinical supervision plays a vital role in substance abuse treatment. Its purpose is to enhance client care, elevate the professionalism of clinical staff, and instill and uphold ethical benchmarks within the profession. In the context of addiction counseling, supervision focuses in on substance abuse expertise, encompassing areas such as assessment, diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and family support.
Professional Development/Training
Motivational Interviewing
Training

SiUSSW offers various levels of Motivational Interviewing training and services tailored to meet your individual and organizational needs. Motivational interviewing is widely used in various fields, such as health care, criminal justice, and education.

Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based treatment that can help people resolve ambivalence about change. Specifically, it is a “collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change” (Miller & Rollnick, 2009; p. 137).
